Law enforcement officers are investigating a theft uncovered at the Johnston County Heritage Center in Downtown Smithfield.
The Heritage Center is a department of Johnston County government and stores a collection of local history, artifacts, and exhibits.
Heritage Center Executive Director Todd Johnson reported that between December 1, 2018 and May 24, 2019 someone removed 200 historical site note cards, an audio record, two microphones and a plastic case from the public building.
The items were valued at $1,250. Johnson told JoCoReport the stolen items are being replaced.
