The Clayton Town Council approved the appointment of J.D. Solomon as Town Manager during its Monday, Jan. 4, meeting. Solomon has served in the position as interim since Sept. 1, 2020.
Prior to his appointment as interim town manager, the 30-year resident of Clayton had worked with the Town on a wide range of management, engineering and planning projects. He has served in the community in a number of roles, including as a member of the Town of Clayton Planning Board and the Clayton Cultural Arts Foundation and as chairman of the Johnston County Economic Development Commission and president of Clayton Little League.
“The Town was getting a known quantity when I was moved from the program manager role to the interim town manager role,” Solomon said. “I have been humbled by comments of support and encouragement to continue in the town manager role over a longer period of time.”
Council approved the termination of the interim contract on January 31 and the start of the permanent contract on February 1. Solomon will receive an annual salary of $196,000.
“We have made good progress on tough issues over the last four months. And there are more issues that need attention,” Solomon said. “We need more time and we need to keep the momentum. Clayton is my home. Clayton is my commitment.”
