Jason Beyer Promoted To Lieutenant

Smithfield police officer Jason Beyer has been promoted.  Beyer, who had been a Sergeant since 2013, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant during an Oath of Office ceremony on May 7th before the Smithfield Town Council. Mayor Andy Moore administered the Oath.

Lt. Beyer has been with the Smithfield Police Department for 11 years but has 14 years of law enforcement experience. Previously, he worked for the Atlantic Beach Police Department as a Corporal in the Patrol Division.

Lt. Beyer has been certified since 2011 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and is currently the only DRE in Johnston County.

Beyer also has 21 years of military service.

He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia College, SC in 2017 and is expected to graduate with his Master’s Degree in August 2019.

While not working as a police officer, performing military service, or doing schoolwork, Lt. Beyer says he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, two grown children, or being anywhere close to the water.
