JCPS Breaks Ground On Thanksgiving Area Elementary School

Johnston County Public Schools broke ground on the district’s newest elementary school on Thursday, July 30.

The school, located off Highway 42 East on Lynch Road, will serve families in the Thanksgiving area once construction is complete, which is expected in May 2021. The school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2021.

The new construction should alleviate overcrowding at elementary schools in the north eastern portion of Johnston County. It will be the district’s 24th elementary school.

The new school will have a capacity of 886 students and relieve overcrowding at River Dell, Corinth Holders and Riverwood Elementaries.  No name has been assigned to the new elementary school. The board of education will decide on the school name prior to its opening next year.

The school is one of the 2018 bond referendum projects.
