JCPS Statement On Return To Plan C

Johnston County Public Schools released the following information this afternoon on their decision to return to Plan C beginning next week:

Due to Johnston County being designated a “red” county by the NCDHHS, as well as increased quarantines and COVID cases in the school district as reflected on our dashboard, the Johnston County Board of Education voted to have ALL students, including Pre-K and EC self-contained, return to remote learning under Plan C, beginning Monday, December 14 through Friday, January 15. Unless the remote learning period is extended beyond January 15th, students will return to the plan that they chose on the Second Semester Choice form on Tuesday, January 19. Specific communication regarding Early College and CTLA will come directly from those school sites.

Students will be instructed remotely December 14 through December 18. Students will still observe the previously scheduled winter break from December 20 through January 1. Students will return to remote instruction on January 4 through January 15. Students will observe the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on January 18. It is the current plan for students to return to the plan they were previously attending on January 19.

High school students who have EOC tests scheduled for the week of December 14 will still take their exams at their school. Students are still required by NCDPI to take state tests in an in-person setting. Parents of High school students who are required to take these exams and are not comfortable sending students to school can find additional, detailed information about options on the district and individual school websites.

All students should already have the necessary technology checked out to them to assist in these remote learning days. If your student is in need of a Chromebook or WiFi hotspot, please contact your child’s school to arrange a pickup.

Our middle and high school sites will operate a curbside meal service for all students at no charge during the remote learning days. Meals can be picked up Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families who requested Holiday Meal Kits will pick the meals up on Thursday, December 17 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the high school they indicated on the request form. As always, you may go to any location closest to your home to pick up your meals.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and families continues to be our number one priority. If you have questions regarding a specific event or service that pertains to your student please contact your child’s school to have those questions answered.
