JCPU Offers $50 Credit For Customer Assistance In Water Line Service Material Inventory

SMITHFIELD – Johnston County Public Utilities is offering a one-time credit of $50 on water bills for customers to assist with a service line material inventory for homes constructed prior to 1989.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the Lead and Copper Rule that governs water, and the revisions require all water systems to complete a water service line materials inventory.

Johnston County Public Utilities must determine if our system has any lead or galvanized steel water service lines requiring replacement (GSRR).

Johnston County has a web-based inventory hosted through LeadCAST by Trinnex. The inventory and map identifies the service line material inventory status of both the public and private portions of each water service line, based on existing records. The inventory categorizes service lines as lead, non-lead, GRR or unknown. For the service lines identified as “unknown,” the County needs assistance from customers to identify the actual service line materials.

Customers can visit www.jcutil.com and click on “Water Service Line Inventory – LeadCAST” to learn more and earn a $50 credit on your water bill. Customers must complete this process by August 25, 2024 in order to earn the $50 credit.

Additional information regarding the updated rules and material service line inventory can be found under “The Lead and Copper Rule” on the Johnston County government website.
