JCSO: 31 Pounds Of Marijuana, $25,000 In Cash Seized

FOUR OAKS – A 27 year-old Four Oaks man was arrested on felony drug trafficking charges.

Around 5:00pm Wednesday, Aug. 21 a Johnston County deputy conducted a traffic stop near Four Oaks. During the stop, the officer reportedly found approximately 30 pounds of marijuana concealed inside a crate.

Officers searched the suspects home in the 2700 block of Old School Road. During a search of the property, an additional one pound of marijuana and approximately $25,000 in cash was reportedly located.

Melvin Garrett Benton was charged with four counts of trafficking marijuana, one count of conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance.

Benton was held under a $150,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center in Smithfield.
