JCSO: Inmate Intentionally Floods Cell Block

SMITHFIELD – An inmate is accused of flooding multiple cells in the Johnston County Detention Center.

On August 7, an inmate, Amory Gregory Grant, was transferred from Wake County to Johnston County. After being placed in his jail cell, Grant allegedly damaged an overhead fire sprinkler valve, causing it to flood his cell and several others in the cell block.

The Smithfield Fire Department and Johnston County maintenance personnel responded and turned off the sprinkler system.

Damage to the sprinkler system was placed at $1,500.

Grant was charged with interfering with a jail/prison fire system, a felony.

Grant is awaiting trial on several charges including first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and discharging a weapon into occupied property.
