An inmate in the Johnston County Jail is facing new charges after he allegedly stabbed another inmate during an altercation.
The incident happened around 11:00 am Wednesday.
The inmate, Lamont Kasheen Friend, 40, of Lee Road, Clayton, allegedly lured jail staff to his cell claiming his toilet was not working. When jailors opened the door to his cell he ran past the officers and immediately attacked another inmate, 39 year-old Anthony Glenn Johnson of Smithfield. Friend allegedly used a toothbrush shank to stab Johnson, who received a minor injury.
Jailors quickly detained Friend. He was subsequently charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by a prison.
Friend has been in custody since July 20th following a search warrant at a home in the 1400 block of Lee Road. Authorities seized 36 marijuana plants and equipment used for a marijuana growing operation from the address. Friend had been jailed on four drug offenses since his arrest last month.
He was initially jailed under a $40,000. After Wednesday’s incident, bail was increased to $205,000.
