Jeff Bass Named Selma Police Major

SELMA – Police Chief Jamie Hughes has named Jeffrey “Jeff” Bass as Major of the Selma Police Department. Hughes was the previous Major of the police department before he was promoted to chief of police in October 2023, following the retirement of Chief Billy Thomas.

Bass is now second in command of the police department. The promotion was made official during the November 14 meeting of the Selma Town Council.

Chief Hughes said Major Bass will have a significant role in day-to-day operations and will act as chief of police in his absence. Hughes said Bass was the perfect person for the task and has complete confidence in his abilities.

Major Bass joined the Selma Police Department in 2008. In 2011, he joined the detective division as a narcotics officer in 2011. In 2013, he was assigned a general detective and in 2015 was named Detective of the Year. In 2017, Bass received his Advanced Law Enforcement Certification and in 2019 was promoted to detective sergeant. In 2022, he became Captain of Investigations.
