MICRO – A Johnston County deputy sheriff was involved in a fatal two vehicle collision this afternoon (Saturday) near Micro. The collision occurred around 2:30pm at the intersection of Highway 301 and Watson Road.
The marked patrol cruiser collided with a pickup truck. After the crash, the pickup overturned on the right side of Highway 301. The patrol car came to rest off the roadway on the left side of Highway 301.
The driver of the pickup died at the scene. The deputy sheriff sustained serious injuries and was transported to WakeMed.
Highway 301 was closed for approximately four hours while the the fatal collision was investigated.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Johnston County EMS, Micro Fire Department, State Highway Patrol and Johnston County Coroner responded to the scene. The NC DOT assisted with the traffic detour.
