The Johnston County Board of Commissioners has declared November 20-26, 2020 as Farm-City Week.  This celebration is part of a national observance that occurs across the country.  The event recognizes the contribution of farmers to our society and the partnership with many agribusinesses and consumer to feed our country.  There are several ways that you can participate this year without ever leaving your home or going in public.

November 17-25: Videos about agriculture, farmers, agribusinesses, and food preparation for Thanksgiving will be released on the Facebook of NC Cooperative Extension – Johnston County Center and JoCo Grows Agriculture.  You can watch these when you have time and share them with your friends.

November 20: JC Youth Livestock Benefit Auction online.  Many craft items, livestock products, gift cards and more.  Bidding will open at 8 am on November 20. The link for the auction: https://sconlinesales.com/Bids/AuctionsListingNext/26066

November 16 – 22: Enter door prize drawing for Johnston County Agricultural products on the Facebook pages of NC Cooperative Extension – Johnston County and JoCo Grows Agriculture.  There are several steps and you must do them all to be entered.  Some door prizes valued at $200.

Jolene Brown

November 23 at 6:30 pm: Farm-City Week “Harvest the Humor” with Jolene Brown.  Jolene is a recent inductee into the prestigious CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame and is a real “Farmer Brown” from eastern Iowa.  She is a great speaker that everyone will enjoy.  Door prizes will be announced at the live event.  Registration is required by visiting johnston.ces.ncsu.edu.

Anytime: Give to local food banks, churches, schools, and other organizations that serve those that are less fortunate.  A food drive is always part of Farm-City Week and this year we are encouraging donations to a charity of your choosing.  For a list of local charities, visit this Hungry to Help link: https://go.ncsu.edu/uh9cnin

Farm-City Week this year is made possible by generous donors throughout our county and by volunteer leaders that serve on the Johnston County Farm-City Week Committee. To learn more about Farm-City Week, please call NC Cooperative Extension at the Johnston County Center, 919-989-5380.
