A Johnston County law enforcement officer was recognized for going above and beyond the call of duty in 2016.
On Thursday night the Clayton American Legion Leonard Moore Post # 71 recognized Deputy Sheriff Clay Coats for his outstanding service to citizens in the county.
Deputy Coats (right) was presented the First Responder Recognition Award by Commander Eugene Eckerson (left).
Coats has served as a deputy sheriff for four years and is assigned to the Clayton area. He is a graduate of Clayton High School and lives in the community.
