Johnston County Man Notches $100,000 Scratch-Off Win

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. – Jimmy Batten of Kenly North Carolina tried his luck on a $30 scratch-off ticket and won a $100,000 top prize.

Batten bought his lucky $100,000 Cash Payday ticket from 42 Express Food Mart and Grill on N.C. Highway 42 at Stancil’s Chapel.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,018.

The $100,000 Cash Payday game debuted this month with 80 $100,000 top prizes. Seventy-seven $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Education programs in Johnston County received $14.6 million in support from lottery funds last year.
