Johnston Co. Manufacturer Builds One-Of-A Kind Boat For Kay Yow Cancer Fund Raffle

FOUR OAKS – On Wednesday, May 12, a lucky Cary woman accepted a brand new, one-of-a-kind pink 21’ Savannah Boats SS21 from the Johnston County manufacturer after being selected in a random drawing benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund sold out of raffle tickets in early April for the custom pink boat. The raffle was capped at 1,000 tickets priced at $100 each.

The winner, Cary business owner Leslie Moore-Martinez, won, by random drawing, the coveted pink boat. Leslie received delivery of the boat at Savannah Boats near Four Oaks

Although tickets were purchased in 36 states, many local businesses in the greater Raleigh area played a role in promoting the pink boat raffle. Moore-Martinez learned about the boat while waiting in the drive-thru line at Chick-fil-A in Apex with her daughter, Ava.

“It was a busy lunch rush so while we waited in line we pulled up the website, watched the Savannah Boats video on the making of the boat and learned about their partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund,” explained Moore-Martinez. “I decided to purchase two tickets but ended up buying a third ticket…the third ticket ended up being the winning ticket!”

The Fund, founded in 2007 by the late N.C. State women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, funds life-saving cancer research and access to healthcare for women in underserved communities. All proceeds from the raffle benefit the mission of the Fund.

“We could not be more excited for Leslie,” said Stephanie Glance, CEO of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. “We are also very grateful to all those who purchased a raffle ticket in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund’s mission. Together, we are making a significant impact in the lives of so many!”

The Fund has given millions of dollars toward its mission to fund research and programs serving underserved women affected by all types of cancer, and much of that funding has been awarded in the Triangle.

“Personally, I lost several family members to breast cancer — amazing and strong women,” said Moore-Martinez. ”I love that the work of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund never stops and they have been instrumental in the lives of so many.”

Moore-Martinez anticipates frequenting Jordan Lake with the Savannah Boats special edition SS21, so
locals may catch a glimpse of this one-of-a-kind vessel on local waters this summer!
