JOHNSTON COUNTY – One hundred years ago a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes was a death sentence. But in Denmark, Pharmacologist Hans Christian Hagedorn was busy creating HPH insulin and founded Nordisk Insulin Laboratorium, which is known today as Novo Nordisk. Fast-forward to February 16, 2023, Novo Nordisk and Johnston County are celebrating Novo’s 100th Anniversary as a leader in global healthcare and their continued drive to defeat diabetes and other serious chronic diseases, such as obesity, and rare blood and endocrine disorders.
“As we celebrate Novo Nordisk’s 100th anniversary, our County continues to see the positive impacts that the company has made in the lives of people in our communities and towns,” remarked Johnston County Board of Commissioner Chairman, Butch Lawter. “The investment made in Johnston County and the commitment to being one of the largest employers in our County proves that Novo is not only a mainstay in the County, but that they are also a good corporate citizen. We are thankful for their partnership and drive to be a successful economic leader both globally and locally.”
Located in Clayton, North Carolina, Novo Nordisk has been an economic driver for the Triangle Region for over 30 years and has been among the County’s largest private employers since arriving in Johnston County in the early 1990’s. By pioneering scientific breakthroughs, expanding access to their medicines and working to prevent and ultimately cure disease, Novo has been committed to providing innovative care for their patients, as well as bringing rewarding careers and economic growth to Johnston County.
