SMITHFIELD – Johnston County School Board member Traci Zukowski has resigned. Mrs. Zukowski submitted her Letter of Resignation this afternoon (Wednesday) to Board Chairman Todd Sutton.
Zukowski and her family will be relocating out of Johnston County effective January 27.
“I will no longer have a primary residence in the county and pursuant to the residency requirement, I must resign my position on the Johnston County Board of Education,” Zukowski stated.
Zukowksi was elected in 2018 and her term was set to expire in 2022.
“I want to thank the staff and students of Johnston County Public Schools for the trust they have placed in me as a member of the Board and for their example in showing us all the meaning of public service and hard work,” Zukowski said in a prepared statement.
Chairman Todd Sutton said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Zukowski for her service to the students and staff of Johnston County Public Schools and we wish her health, safety, and happiness in her new home.”
A process for filling the vacant seat on the board will be determined in the near future.
