Johnston County Sheriff’s Cruiser Involved In Crash

MICRO – A deputy sheriff was involved in a two vehicle accident Sunday morning.  The 10:52am crash occurred at the intersection of Bizzell Grove Church Road and Lowell Mill Road about 1.5 miles east of Micro.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Deputy S.M. Williams was operating a marked 2020 Dodge Charger patrol car westbound on Lowell Mill Road and had stopped for a stop sign at the intersection.   Deputy Williams, 28, failed to yield and entered the intersection into the path of a 1998 Mazda pickup traveling south on Bizzell Grove Church Road and driven by William Bailey Murphy Jr., 54, of Lucama. Both vehicles came to rest in the intersection.

According to a collision report by Trooper D.T. Sharpe, the posted speed limit is 55mph. Murphy was originally traveling at 45mph and had slowed to 30mph at the time of impact.  Deputy Williams was traveling at approximately 10mph at impact.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital by EMS.  The Micro Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control.

 

No charges were filed.

Damage to the patrol car was estimated at $10,000. Damage to the pickup was placed at $4,000.
