A state trooper assigned to Johnston County was involved in a three vehicle accident Friday night. The collision was reported at 7:58pm on eastbound I-40 just west of Jones Sausage Road in Wake County.
According to Highway Patrol First Sgt. R.B. Maynard, Trooper R.A. Garcia was traveling eastbound on I-40 after leaving Wake Med in Raleigh from a previous collision he had investigated in Johnston County.
Trooper Garcia had stopped in the far left travel lane along with a car in front of him. A Kia passenger car driven by Joseph Calzaretta of Smithfield was traveling eastbound and failed to reduce speed and struck the marked patrol car from behind. The patrol car was pushed forward into the car in front of him, a Toyota driven by Santiago Bautista of Fayetteville.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
Calzeretta was cited for failure to reduce speed.
Weird how it isn’t mentioned Calzaretta is an LEO…
