SMITHFIELD – Johnston County will host the second phase of public input for the Countywide Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) on Thursday, September 19 from 4:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. at the Great Hall at Johnston Community College in Smithfield.
The CTP is a multimodal transportation plan that helps guide transportation decision-making and multimodal priorities for the County. The meeting will allow participants to review and evaluate potential transportation projects and make recommendations that could possibly be included in the plan.
Officials want to hear how Johnston County citizens envision the future of transportation and connectivity in and around the County.
If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to provide feedback, the CTP survey is still available online. Additional information can be found on the Johnston County CTP website: https://www.johnstonnc.com/CTP/.
I wish we could have a viable public transportation system. Many people do not like drive, some do not and cannot (for more than one reason) get and afford a license, car and insurance. Some people have traffic infractions that limit their driving. Not just in busy and more crowded Selma/Smithfield but every town within the county has people who could benefit by some type of public transportation for rides to a store a mile or so away, to a longer ride to the other side of the county all together – and all places in between. We still have a lot of more rural areas that make this hard to be cost effective unless there could be one or more “stations” and a few set times schedules and may be even a way for riders to notify a dispatcher that indeed someone is needing a ride and therefore not waste time/gas for a bus to go to an empty station. Not sure if I am wording my thoughts correctly where it makes sense without having to write more context.
Even small train stations in every town so someone could get to another town would be nice. The train does not have to stop if they are aware in advance that there is no one getting on or off at any particular stop. I know I could go from Benson to Kenly on a train but I dont think I could go from Pine Level to Benson without switching train. I need to pay more attention to the layout of our train track in JoCo obviously…
If this meetings is more about road ways and vehicle travel and its impact on the county and its Citizens – then all I can say is to prepare in advance for continued growth. I would rather we “grow” into our roads and Highways instead of upgrading after traffic has become so bad and then made worse by the construction and road closures that follow.
I have heard that there is public transportation on mars.
The rovers are doing amazing work. I am not sure how many are still functioning at the moment though. A quick google search is in order…
I watched a documentary on how they build one – I don’t know which one though. The technology that is available plus the ability to incorporate it all and have it built is mind blowing. We really have some super intelligent and dedicated people behind these missions. Their brain just thinks so different than mine since they can look at a blueprint of some new technology and envision it and make it happen…
