Johnston County Trooper Promoted

Trooper Maynard 2After patrolling the roadways of Johnston County for the past 13 years Saturday was the last day in Johnston County for State Trooper R. Brian Maynard.

Starting today (Monday), Maynard begins work in Wake County where he has been assigned after being promoted to the rank of sergeant.

“I will miss my coworkers and the citizens of Johnston County,” Sgt. Maynard told WTSB News.

The only child of Sharon and the late Bobby Maynard, Brian grew up in Dunn and graduated in 1996 from Triton High School. He received a degree in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University in 2000.  After working for two years with the NC SBI, her joined the Highway Patrol in January 2003. After graduating from the training academy he was assigned to Johnston County as 1 of 16 troopers who patrol the interstates and rural roadways.

Sgt. Maynard will now supervise a squad of troopers in Wake County.  But he will still live in the Clayton area with his wife, Pam, and his 8 year-old daughter Delaney, a student at West Clayton Elementary School.

“It has been an extremely busy duty station,” Sgt. Maynard said reflecting on his 13 years in Johnston County, “but the coworkers and the people of this county make it fun. Sometimes you don’t realize how busy it is because the people you deal with are decent people.”

As for his promotion and no longer patrolling Johnston County, Maynard called it “extremely bittersweet.”  “I am looking forward to my new endeavor but will miss the people.” JoCoReport.com Photo
