Two Johnston County youth football teams are headed to Florida to play in ESPN Bowl games.
The Cleveland Pop Warner Association (CPWA) Unlimited Rams and Pee Wee – Blue won the Mid South Regional Championship titles in Virginia Beach for their respective divisions on Saturday. They were named Consolidated Football Federation (CFF) Champions for 2017.
This is the first time in the history of Cleveland Pop Warner that a football team has advanced to the Nationals. The Unlimited Rams will play for the ESPN Pop Warner Super Bowl National Championship Title against 64 teams in 5 different divisions from across the United States. The team leaves Johnston County this Friday and will play on Saturday, Dec. 2nd and Tuesday, Dec. 5th. If they win both games they will advance to the Super Bowl on Friday, Dec. 8th.
The Pee Wee Blue team will play in two bowl games on Dec. 4th and 7th.
The Unlimited Rams is a team of 21 players – ages 11 to 14 – and the Pee Wee Team is a team of 20 players – ages 10 to 12.
Players and their parents are trying to raise $14,000 for each team to pay for travel expenses. They have held Yard Sales, Bakes Sales, and have gone door-to-door soliciting donations. GoFundMe pages have also been established for the two youth football teams.
