Johnston To Purchase Water From Sampson County

An agreement has been signed between Johnston and Sampson County officials to allow Johnston County to purchase water from Sampson County.

The bulk water purchase agreement approved and signed last week.

The water from Sampson County will serve as additional supply for the Johnston East distribution system.  The water will come from wells in Sampson County and will be compatible with the Johnston East system.

The agreement allows Johnston County to purchase up to 500,000 gallons of water per day.

Sampson County will supply 150,000 gallons at the Easy Street connection by June 2020 and 350,000 gallons per day at the Oak Grove Church Road connection by June 2021.  Johnston County will have a minimum daily purchase requirement of 100,000 gallons per day at the Easy Street connection and 300,000 gallons per day at the Oak Grove Church Road connection.

Johnston agreed to pay a monthly commodity charge of $2.50 per 1,000 gallons of water purchased during the first 5 years.  The agreement is for a 30 year term.

Johnston County Public Utilities requested commissioners approve the agreement. The board voted unanimously to enter into the contract at their April 1st meeting.
