Johnston’s Teacher Of the Year Named Regional Semi-Finalist In Statewide Competition

Shannon Snipes from Selma Middle School has been named a North Central Regional Semi-Finalist Teacher of the Year.

Johnston County Public Schools Teacher of the Year Shannon Snipes has been named a North Central Regional Semi-Finalist in the state teacher of the year competition.

Snipes, a fifth grade teacher at Selma Middle, was recognized as the 24th Flame for Learning Award recipient in April. She is the first teacher to represent the district at the regional level since North Johnston High School’s Sonya Kiser in 2007.

“I am very humbled and honored to represent Johnston County Public Schools as the North Central Regional Semi-Finalist Teacher of the Year,” said Snipes. “It is with great admiration for my profession, that I honor the incredible educators, students, administrators and my Johnston County community as a servant leader. I am truly blessed to receive such an honor.”

If Snipes is named a regional winner in January, she and other eight finalists from across the state will vie for North Carolina Teacher of the Year.
