Johnston County’s unemployment rate increased slightly from June to July, according to the NC Department of Commerce.
Johnston’s jobless rate climbed from 5.5 to 5.6 percent. However, the unemployment rate is 0.4 percent lower than this same time a year ago.
A total of 79 of the state’s 100 counties saw jobless numbers increase in July. Johnston County ranked 10th lowest in North Carolina in unemployment with 4,959 people without jobs. Buncombe County had the lowest unemployment rate at 4.8% while Scotland County had the highest at 11.7%.
