Keep Benson Beautiful Cleanup This Saturday

The Town of Benson is preparing for its 7th annual Keep Benson Beautiful clean-up event this Saturday April 1st. Volunteers from across the community will work alongside town employees and elected officials to beautify Benson.

The theme for the weekend is “I Love Benson.”

Expected activities include weeding tree boxes along the historic Main Street district, planting of flowers at Mary Duncan Public Library and the Benton Corner, picking up debris/trash along roadways in town, cleaning of the grounds at the Civic Center Park, Mitchell Nance Park and continued work at the new PK Vyas Park.   A strong focus will be placed on the Hwy 301 Trailer Park, assisting residents that were impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

Volunteers are asked to assemble in the former Benson Elementary Gymnasium off Lee and Elm Streets by 8:30 AM on Saturday April 1, 2017. Breakfast is provided courtesy of McDonald’s of Benson, Food Lion and Carlie C’s IGA. Teams of workers, wearing orange NCDOT safety vests, will be assigned tasks and transported to work projects across town.

“The continued support of Keep Benson Beautiful is amazing,” stated Matt Zapp, Town Manager. “I personally get renewed and energized every spring as our community comes together and works to display their love for Benson.”

Keep Benson Beautiful will be capped with a volunteer lunch and celebration.  Volunteers will be treated to pizza, sweet tea and desserts from an array of local restaurants.  Each volunteer will also receive a goodie bag filled with promotional items from local merchants.
