KENLY – Police were staked out in the drive-thru line at McDonald’s on Highway 301 in Kenly, Wednesday afternoon. The stakeout had been planned for several days by Police Chief James Ayers and McDonald’s owner Josiah Hennein. The target, families and their kids, and a free Happy Meal.
In an effort to strengthen the bond between law enforcement, the local community, and youth, Chief Ayers and Major Corey Bullock joined forces with McDonald’s for the community outreach initiative.
The two uniformed officers greeted parents and children as they ordered their favorite meals at the drive-thru. In a special gesture, aimed at spreading smiles, the officers handed out free Happy Meal cards. Police also thanked the children for wearing seat belts, or for being in their booster seats.
“It’s essential for us as law enforcement to build trust and connections with the people we serve,” noted Chief Ayers. “Partnering with local businesses like McDonald’s allows us to reach out to families in a relaxed, friendly environment.”
Josiah Hennepin, the McDonald’s owner, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “We’re thrilled to be a part of this effort to bring the community closer together. McDonald’s is not just a restaurant; it’s a place where people gather, and we’re proud to facilitate these meaningful connections.”
Chief Ayers says the Kenly Police Department is committed to continuing such community-focused initiatives, creating a safer and more connected Kenly for everyone.
Chief Ayers and Major Bullock look forward to more opportunities to engage with local residents and strengthen these vital relationships, at the same time bringing smiles to the faces of children, and free Happy Meals!
