A Kenly Police officer was fired on Monday. The firing comes two weeks after the NC State Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation into the Kenly Police Department.
Town officials are not saying if the dismissal of Lt. Casey Jones has anything to do with an SBI investigation into the Kenly Police Department first reported on September 18th by JoCoReport.
Kenly Town Manager Michael Douglas confirmed today (Tuesday) that Lt. Jones was dismissed on October 7th for “failure to comply with the terms of the Town of Kenly Personnel Policy.” Additional details were not released.
A Public Records Request by JoCoReport shows that all other Kenly police officers remain on the force.
On September 18th, Douglas said the Elizabeth City Police Department was initially requested to conduct an “initial administrative investigation.” Based on those findings, a “criminal investigation” was requested by Police Chief Josh Gibson and Johnston County District Attorney Susan Doyle, Mr. Douglas said.
The Johnston County District Attorney and the NC SBI are not commenting on the circumstances surrounding the criminal investigation that’s still underway.
