Kenly Woman Faces Felony Assault, Methamphetamine Charges

KENLY, N.C. – A Kenly woman wanted by Benson Police for allegedly striking and dragging a man with a vehicle was arrested Aug. 8, and deputies said they found nearly 60 grams of suspected methamphetamine during her arrest.

Brittany Sawyer-Hancock, 23, of the 3900 block of N.C. Highway 222 East, was taken into custody around 8:42 p.m. by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies had gone to a residence in the 7100 block of Old Beulah Road near Kenly while attempting to locate Sawyer-Hancock on a Benson Police Department warrant charging her with felony assault with a deadly weapon.

She was not at the residence when officers arrived. While deputies were still there, Sawyer-Hancock reportedly drove up to the address.

She was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant.

During the arrest, deputies reportedly located approximately 59.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Sawyer-Hancock was subsequently charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine.

The Benson Police warrant stems from an Aug. 5 incident. Authorities allege Sawyer-Hancock struck a man with a vehicle and dragged him, causing serious injuries.

Sawyer-Hancock was held without bond on the felony charges pending her first court appearance.
