Goldsboro – The Wayne County Board of Education has named Riverbend School at Cherry Hospital principal Kevin D. Smith, Sr. the new principal for Edgewood Community Developmental School. He is replacing Tasha Christian-Adams who retired in June.
Mr. Smith has 14 years of Exceptional Children’s education experience. He began his education career in 2005 as an Instructional Assistant at Edgewood Community Developmental School. Two years later, Mr. Smith became a teacher at the school, where he spent the next five years. It is worth noting that while serving as a teacher, he also began serving on the school’s leadership team and as a lead teacher at the school. In 2012, Mr. Smith left Edgewood to serve as an Educator I at the Riverbend School at Cherry Hospital. The following year, he began an administrative intern position at the school while continuing to teach. In 2014, he was named principal at the school, a role he has held since. Mr. Smith holds the following education licenses: School Administrator: Principal, Exceptional Children K-12, EC Social Studies (K-6), EC Science (K-6), EC Math (K-6) and EC Language Arts (K-6).
“We look forward to welcoming Mr. Smith to this new role and working with him through this transition,” states Dr. Michael Dunsmore, WCPS superintendent. “Mr. Smith brings with him valuable experience as a school administrator and EC educator. His familiarity with Edgewood and his passion to see its students flourish and grow will be vital in his efforts to engage families and help staff continue to bring out the best in some of our most special students.“
Mr. Smith will begin his new role September 12th.
