Thanks to a good Samaritan a laptop stolen from an assistant district attorney was recovered.
The assistant prosecutor was loading items he had placed in a cart into his car at the Johnston County Courthouse around 6:45pm Wednesday. After driving away, the prosecutor remembered he had left the laptop, which is property of the NC Court system, in the cart. When he returned to the courthouse the computer was missing.
A report was filed with the Smithfield Police Department.
On Thursday, District Attorney Susan Doyle told WTSB News the laptop was password protected and could not be accessed by anyone without the pass code. Doyle said there was never any risk of any sensative information being obtained from the laptop.
Officials did not say where the laptop was found.
