SELMA – A large and very old oak tree fell without notice, Thursday afternoon, tearing down power lines and partially landing on the front porch of a home on Center Street in Selma.
A number of people were trapped inside their homes when the live power lines landed in their yards. Selma Police and fire officials safely evacuated all who desired to get out of their homes.
There were no injuries reported in the 3:40pm incident.
Center Street was closed for several hours between West Anderson and West Oak Streets.
The power outage extended into the downtown area, including some traffic lights on US 301 (Pollock Street).
Selma Electric crews restored power but the tree took additional time to clean up.
