Smithfield Mayor Andy Moore administered the oath for newly hired Smithfield Police Officer Leslie Garner Hufton. Officer Hufton was sworn in during the August meeting of the Smithfield Town Council.
Hufton, from Bailey, NC, began her career in law enforcement as a deputy with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. She has four years of experience. She obtained an associates degrees in criminal justice.
Officer Hufton and her husband have been married just over a year and they have one daughter.
She becomes the second full-time sworn female police officer on the Smithfield Police Department. Hufton has been assigned to the patrol division to fill a vacancy.
