The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield (PLJCS) has re-opened for “Browsing by Appointment.” Patrons can schedule 30-minute visits to browse and check out materials. The computer lab is also open for one-hour appointments.
PLJCS has just launched “myLIBRO,” a brand new smartphone app and online service for patrons. Users can access the library’s online catalog and reserve books for curbside pickup, all through their smartphone! Browsing appointments and computer lab times can also be reserved through the app.
Curbside Pickup, one of myLIBRO’s features, lets patrons search the Smithfield Library or the statewide system of catalogs to reserve materials. Users can download the app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store or use the service via www.pljcs.org.
“Although the pandemic has limited the use of our building, our current curbside service continues to grow,” said Katie Guthrie, Interim Director of PLJCS. “The myLIBRO app is a quick and easy way for patrons to access this and other services, with just a few steps on their smartphone. We’re excited to be one of the first libraries in the state to offer myLibro services too!”
Once patrons place a reservation and select a pickup time, their items will be brought right to their vehicle in a designated Curbside Pickup space or items can be picked up in the library’s foyer. In addition, myLIBRO allows patrons to schedule appointments to browse materials in the building, make computer lab appointments, and borrow Wi-Fi enabled laptops.
Patrons may still call the library for Curbside Pickup at 984-985-CURB or simply schedule online. The library is located at 305 E. Market St. in downtown Smithfield and all services are available during the current business hours, 9 AM to 5:30 PM Monday – Friday.
