WILSON’S MILLS – Local law enforcement officers conducted a license checkpoint on US 70 near Wilson’s Mills, Saturday night.
The Wilson’s Mills Police Department was assisted by Smithfield Police, Selma Police, and the North Carolina DHHS BAT mobile unit.
Wilson’s Mills Police Chief A.Z. Williams told The Johnston County Report, “We’re a rapidly growing community that has seen increased motor vehicle traffic and accidents including several fatalities in the past two years. The work zone construction on Highway 70 unfortunately has not deterred violators at all. As a result, WMPD has increased our efforts to enforce motor vehicle laws throughout Wilson’s Mills with marked and unmarked police vehicles to reduce excessive speeding and to hopefully save lives.”
During the three hour operation police made three DWI arrests and apprehended two people who had outstanding warrants, including a felon charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Other citations included: 16 no operator license, 4 driving on a revoked license, 1 open container of alcohol, 3 expired license plates, 1 carrying a concealed gun, 2 no vehicle insurance, 1 child restraint violation, 3 possession of a controlled substance, 1 resist and delay, and 1 misdemeanor identity theft.
