CLAYTON – Heavy rain and pounding lightning resulted in at least one Johnston County house fire, Tuesday evening.
A bolt of lightning struck a home with a loud “boom,” family members reported, on White Ash Drive off NC 42 East, in Flowers Plantation.
The lightning started a fire which sent heavy black smoke throughout the home and family members out the back door just as flames were coming out of the HVAC ductwork.
Firefighters from Northside, Clayton and Wilson’s Mills fire departments extinguished the blaze as more lightning was seen flashing in the skies above.
According to fire officials, the blaze was confined to the attic area, however, the home suffered considerable damage due to water and smoke.
There were no injuries reported.
It was a real bad storm. Glad no one was injured.
