List Of Smithfield Streets To Be Resurfaced

SMITHFIELD – Sections of up to fourteen streets in Smithfield will be resurfaced this Fall. Garris Grading and Paving was the lowest of four bidders on the project.

To expedite the paving process, council members granted town manager Mike Scott permission to select the lowest qualified bidder instead of waiting another month for additional council review.

Mr. Scott said he has approved 12 of the 14 streets for resurfacing. He will ask council approval for the final two streets during their November meeting.

The following streets will be resurfaced with an anticipated start date no later than November 6, weather permitting : 1000-1009 Blount Street; 800 block East Street; 700 block Second Avenue; 300 block Holt Street; 1300 block Vermont Street; 1400 block Vermont Street, 100-103 E. Wilson Street; 18-47 Bradford Street; 52-59 Brookwood Drive; 200 block S. Roderick Drive; 100 block North Street; 200 block Longview Drive.

Pending council approval two remaining streets will also be resurfaced later this year: 1-65 Sussex Drive; 1-70 Towbridge Street.

Garris Grading and Paving was the lowest bidder at $413,939.58. Other bids ranged from $485,941 to $722,022.

The Town Council also discussed the importance of repaving Outlet Center Drive. The estimated cost is $700,000. The town elected to pave residential streets this year. They plan to ask local state lawmakers for assistance in securing funds to repave Outlet Center Drive.

  1. We’ve all seen what the lowest bidder provides when it comes to the roads being paved or resurfaced over the last 20 years. And what about all the streets connected to North Street and North Street itself? Too many to list but I think everyone knows.

  2. They need to fix West Underwood Ave, The road is caving in, big pot holes, town placed a steel plate on top of some of the holes, but street is getting really bad, Personally living on this street for 23 years, it is time for the entire street from US 301 all down to the end by the woods, needs to be repaved.
