Local Girl Scout Troop Improves Beauty Of Camp Mary Atkinson

The Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors of Troop #1606 in Clayton were proud to plant 50 azaleas at Camp Mary Atkinson to give back and add beauty to the camp they love.

The Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors of Clayton Troop #1606 recently planted 50 azaleas at Camp Mary Atkinson, one of Girl Scout – North Carolina Coastal Pines campsites, as part of a service project. The azaleas were awarded to Troop #1606 through an annual giveaway by WRAL TV 5.

The Girl Scouts, in grades 2 through 5, used this opportunity to give back to a camp that has provided the girls with fond memories, and the project gave them a sense of pride in knowing they helped make the camp a nicer place and anyone who visits the camp will be able to appreciate its new beauty.

The project also served as a team building exercise as the girls had to divide up the work and decide the best way to carry out the project. They were able to finish planting within an hour and a half, all while learning about planting and what plants need to thrive.
