Ashton Gupton of Smithfield recently competed against fifteen 12-13 year old junior girl golfers from across North Carolina in the PGA Drive Chip and Putt competition sectionals in Chapel Hill.
Ashton finished second in the overall competition and will advance to play for a chance to be at April’s Masters Tournament in the 12-13 year old Girls Division. She took third in Driving, even though she was in 15th place after her first drive, thanks to a final attempt that reached over 250 yards.
She finished first in chipping by having all three of her chips within 2 feet of the hole. The regional will be held on August 8th at the Greensboro National.
Ashton is a 7th grader at Neuse Charter School. She is the daughter of Tony and Melony Gupton. She has always been interested in golf and was hitting balls and putting at age 3. She began playing golf at the age of seven.
