Local Youth Track Club Represents Johnston County At National Championship

Johnston County Commissioners took time during their meeting on Tuesday to recognize several young local athletes.

Members of the Evolution Track Club were recognized after Commissioner Larry Wood read a proclamation honoring the members.

Five member of the club recently completed in the USATF Jr. Olympic Track and Field National Championship held in Lawrence, Kansas. Evolution Track Club was formed in 2010 by President Rhea Yates. Rhea had a vision of promoting the sport of track and field in the Johnston County community.

Evolution Track Club is not only a summer outdoor track club but has expanded to offer Cross Country and Indoor Track and Field as well.  They are the first and only youth track and field organization in Johnston County and has doubled in participation every year since opening.

A nationally ranked athlete Kendra Harrison of Clayton was a member of Evolution in 2011.  She earned a full scholarship at Kentucky University, turned pro in 2015 and is the current U.S. World Record holder in the women’s 100m Hurdles.

The five members who recently completed in Kansas included Naelee Stone, Everette Alston, Ryley Brinkley, J.R. McLean, Elijah Kenney and Jayden Gray.  JoCoReport.com Photo
