Erceg led the Carolina League in AVG, OPS and RBIs during the last week

Zebulon – The Carolina Mudcats, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Carolina League are excited to announce today that infielder Lucas Erceg was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending on July 30. Erceg hit a league high .478 and totaled a league best 1.563 OPS during the week of play running from July 24 through July 30.

Erceg, 21, hit .478/.520/1.043 with seven runs, two doubles, one triple, a league high three home runs and a league high 12 RBIs during the week leading up to the award announcement.

His three homers came over a span of three straight games (7/26-7/29) and included a grand slam in Myrtle Beach on July 26, a two-run home run on July 27 versus Wilmington and a game tying, solo, home run in game one of a doubleheader on July 29 against the Blue Rocks.

A large chunk of Erceg’s league best 12 RBIs came on July 26 in Myrtle Beach when he drove in five of Carolina’s eight runs in an 8-2, sweep clinching, victory against the Pelicans. He also went on to drive in all three runs of Carolina’s 3-2, series opening, victory against the Blue Rocks on July 27.

Erceg is the first Mudcats player to win a Carolina League Player of the Week award this season and the weekly honor was the first of his young career.

Erceg made his professional debut last season with the Helena Brewers after the Brewers selected him in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Menlo College in California. He finished the 2016 season with Low-A Wisconsin and began the 2017 campaign with the Mudcats. He is currently in his first full season and second overall.

The Carolina Mudcats are the proud new Carolina League, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First established in 1991, the two-time Southern League Champion Mudcats are in their 27th consecutive season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.
