The NC Department of Transportation will be replacing storm water pipes along Main Street in Benson. Work could begin as early as today (Monday, February 19th), weather permitting. The DOT expects the project to last 45 days.
Portions of Main Street will be closed temporarily throughout this process — detours will be put in place as the work progresses.
For the duration of this project, traffic will be detoured at Lee and Main and at US 301 and Main. Local traffic will still be able to access downtown Main Street using cross streets.
Traffic on US 301 will be impacted with lane closures and detours for up to a week. All detours will be clearly marked for the duration of the work.
“In the next few months, you will see Main Street transform. These are much needed upgrades and the first step in ensuring Benson’s businesses are safe in another extreme weather event,” said Public Works Director Tim Robbins.
This project is in preparation for the future resurfacing of Main Street.
“We want to thank NC DOT for not only upgrading our storm water pipes along Main Street, but also for its planned resurfacing — this will be a monumental improvement to our town,” he added.
