A Clayton man is facing charges from Smithfield Police after he allegedly tried to defraud Wal-Mart.
On August 29th, officers responded to Wal-Mart on North Brightleaf Boulevard. Interim Police Chief Keith Powell said the suspect went into the store and picked up several items off the shelf, didn’t pay for the items, instead attempted to return the merchandise for a refund at the customer service desk using an old receipt for the same products. The merchandise was valued at $90.33.
Mark Alexander Linker, 22, of Swann Trail, Clayton was detained at the scene by police. During a search, officers allegedly found 0.8 grams of marijuana in his possession.
Linker was charged with felony obtaining property by false pretenses, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $20,000.
