SMITHFIELD – Police arrested a 27 year-old Smithfield man for misuse of the 911 system, a misdemeanor.

On March 29 around 6:02am, Smithfield Police were dispatched to a 911 call in the 700 block of E. Market Street. Rene Antonio Maldonado Garay, of S. Sixth Street, reportedly told officers someone was chasing him and trying to cause harm.
Police reportedly determined the call was fictitious.
Garay was transported to the Johnston County Detention Center on March 29 and given a $1,000 secure bond.
This is the suspect’s second arrest in recent weeks. On March 12, Garay was arrested on two counts of injury to property after he allegedly spray painted graffiti on the exterior walls at Family Dollar and Holley’s Open Air Market on S. Brightleaf Boulevard. He was released on an unsecured bond pending trial after the March 12 incident.
Does he just desperately want a criminal record?
Has he been evaluated for a mental impairment?
