Man Charged In Double Murder Of Parents

SELMA –  A Selma man has been charged with killing his parents.   Sunday afternoon, deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home at 960 Olivia Way for a well-being check.  Officers spoke with neighbors and determined Stephen Michael Boggs Sr., 72, and his wife, Brenda McFatter Boggs, 71, had not been seen for approximately two months.

Neighbors said they made attempts to contact the couple without success. They also reported that they observed the couple’s son, Stephen Michael Boggs Jr., who was living with his parents, coming and going from the residence frequently.  He was last seen at the home in the middle of last week and neighbors were still unable to contact the couple.

Deputies made entry into the home and located the couple deceased. The family dog was also found dead.  According to the sheriff’s office, it appears the couple had been deceased for a considerable amount of time. It also appears they bad both been shot.

Investigators determined the couple’s financial account had recent activity in Myrtle Beach, SC. With the assistance of the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, 53 year-old Stephen Michael Boggs Jr. was located at a hotel in Myrtle Beach.  He was taken into custody and charged with the concealment of the death of his parents.

Upon extradition to North Carolina and his return to Johnston County, he will be formally charged with the murder of his parents.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional details are being released.
