PIKEVILLE – Late-Thursday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced an arrest in the murder of a woman and her unborn child.
James Isaac Jones Jr., 33, of Sweeten Branch Drive, Pikeville was charged in the death of 29 year-old Cassia Renee Duval and her unborn child.
On January 29th at 11:16pm, Wayne County Communications received a call reporting a woman was slumped over in a vehicle near the intersection of Pikeville-Princeton Road and Nahunta Road in western Wayne County. As emergency personnel were responding to the scene the call was upgraded to a car crash.
Deputies said they arrived to find a car in the ditch. Cassia Duval was pronounced dead at the scene.
On January 31st, following the completion of an autopsy, authorities ruled her death as a homicide.
Jones was charged Thursday with one count of murder and one count of murder of an unborn child. He was held in the Wayne County Jail without bond. Authorities said Jones and Duval lived together.
