A West Smithfield man is facing criminal charges after he reportedly called Smithfield Police reporting his car has been stolen. Officers responded to a call at 9:27pm on March 19th from 30 year-old Daryell R. Carlisle. Carlisle was reportedly babysitting a child at his home on Landmark Drive when he told police someone stole his car. Carlisle walked to the 3G Mart, a nearby convenience store, to call police.
Officers said Carlisle was extremely intoxicated, and the car he claimed had been stolen was parked in his driveway. Police also said Carlisle was too intoxicated to properly care for the child and that he had left the juvenile unattended in his home while he went to the convenience store.
Carlisle was issued a criminal citation for misdemeanor child abuse and filing a false police report. He was released at the scene.
Police did not disclose the age of the child or the relationship to the suspect.
