A Johnston County man sustained serious cuts to his head and back while defending his own mother. It happened Monday at the family’s home on Richardson Road in northern Johnston County.
Deputies said 29 year-old Jerry Lee Hinnant was involved in a domestic altercation with his mother. During the incident, Hinnant allegedly struck his mother in the face.
Hinnant’s younger brother, 26 year-old Paul Devon Hinnant intervened to protect his mother. When he did, Jerry Hinnant allegedly cut him with a knife.
Officers said they found Paul Hinnant injured and bleeding when they arrived on the scene. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment of injuries described as “severe lacerations.”
Investigators recovered a folding pocket knife at the scene.
Jerry Hinnant was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $30,000 bond.
