Man Dies Trying To Retrieve Object From I-95 Travel Lane

BENSON – The State Highway Patrol has identified a 45 year-old Benson man who died after darting into the southbound travel lane of Interstate 95 to retrieve an object. The accident occurred at 5:05pm Monday, just south of Exit 79 in Benson.

Troopers said Robert Montez Rowland was trying to retrieve an unknown object from the inside southbound land when he was struck by a 2012 Chevy Sonic driven by Dawn Myers, 48, of Fayetteville. Rowland died at the scene.

No charges were filed against the driver of the car.
