Man Loses Consciousness While Driving, Crashes Into Mobile Home

WILSON’S MILLS – A man was transported to the hospital after crashing his SUV into a mobile home after losing consciousness.

The accident was reported at 12:22pm Sunday on Swift Creek Road in Wilson’s Mills.

Wilson’s Mills Police Chief A.Z. Williams said a GMC Yukon sports utility vehicle ran off the roadway striking a fence. The vehicle continued on, traveling approximately 800 feet through a field, where it struck the corner of a mobile home on Jones Court.

The SUV continued an additional 100 feet into the woods before colliding with a tree and coming to a stop.

The 43 year-old driver told police he was on the phone with his girlfriend when he mentioned feeling lightheaded. Shortly thereafter, the girlfriend said she heard the crash over the phone. The driver apparently lost consciousness and when he awoke, he and his vehicle were in the woods.

The driver escaped serious injury in the accident. Officers determined the driver was not impaired and the accident was due to a medical emergency event.

No one inside the mobile home was injured, however the residence sustained major structural damage and was deemed unsafe by the Johnston County Building Inspections Department.
